wuchale project

- Introduction
The girls were selected from 23 rural kebeles of Ambasel woreda in 2012/13. They were 30 because our capacity was limited to only support them and be a model to other organizations and individuals to follow. Before they joined IFSO’s- hostel and started their grade 9 education, they used to travel on average more than 20 km on foot to and from school in their primary education. But after they promoted to grade 9, they were desperate to continue their education since all of the families of these girls were very poor and even most of them are half or double orphan. This was the reality they faced in 2012/13. At this time, IFSO took the initiative to alleviate the situation they faced and started to communicate its long standing – donor (CIFA) for support. Fortunately, the donor accepted the proposal and the girls were admitted to enjoy a package of services (mainly, shelter, food, clothing, education, medical, sanitation, tutorial support), and were encouraged by IFSO management and supporting staff to work hard. They stayed in the hostel for a period of 4 years (9 th to 12 th grade) and the remaining 3 years (2016/17 to 2018/19) in Universities.
As a result of all the efforts 16 of the young girls/students have successfully finalized and graduated from universities. But as you can see from the table below excluding Meseret Merawi and Mulu Eshetu (already accepted by their respective Universities to work with) there are 7 students (4 of them with great distinction and 3 of them with distinction) who we are planning to request Universities in Amhara region to admit them in the same way. Of course, wollo university officials informed us if Amhara region gives supportive letter to universities, universities will be cooperative.
Therefore, with the help of God we are trying all our best to help them achieve better.
